Area Law Enforcement recently held an event titled “Buckle Up for a Buck” which rewards drivers for good behavior. Officers from Fairmont PD, Martin County Sheriff’s Office, and Minnesota State Patrol stood in the drive thru at McDonald’s and the parking lot of Hyvee Gas in Fairmont where they handed out $1 to driver’s who were buckled along with traffic safety tips. Among the 180 drivers contacted, 20 were not wearing seat belts putting the short seat belt survey at approximately 88% use. Mayo Clinic Health System donated $200 toward the event which encourages seat belt usage. Thanks to South Central EMS, Minnesota Toward Zero Deaths, and the Martin County Safe Roads Coalition for hosting a great event in Fairmont!
