Full-Time Police Officer

The City of Fairmont is accepting applications to immediately fill open full-time police officer positions. Fairmont is a beautiful community in southern Minnesota on Interstate 90 that has a chain of five lakes running through it. The community is very pro-law enforcement and supports the services we provide. We will continue to accept applications until the position(s) are filled. If you are claiming Veterans Preference points, you must submit proof of eligibility with your application materials. Applicants must be POST Licensed, eligible to be licensed, eligible for military or out of state reciprocity, or current students who anticipate taking the POST eligibility test by July 1, 2024. Applicants must meet all minimum selections standards as outlined by POST in MN 626.87 and 6700.0700. Starting Compensation and Vacation

Starting hourly wage: $37.41/hour ($77,812/year) Lateral candidates may be considered for a higher starting wage.
Current top Patrol Officer wage: $47.33/hour ($98,446/year) (2024 contract)

Yearly uniform allowance of $775.00/year with initial issue provided by department.
10 hour patrol shifts with shift differential for hours worked between 1800 and 0600.
12 paid holidays, pro-rated at time of hire paid as vacation hours.
Total vacation earned 1st year: 80 hours
Total annual vacation earned after 4 years: 112 hours

There are currently 18 full-time licensed officers. The Fairmont Police Department also employs two, full-time licensed officers to work part-time hours to help fill shifts and special assignments. The department offers prospective candidates a wide variety of rewarding assignments and specialized positions.
