Part-Time Community Service Officer-Cadet (CSO-Cadet)

The City of Fairmont Police Department is accepting applications to immediately fill one part-time Community Service Officer-Cadet position. The CSO-Cadet is for recent graduates, current students, or students who have been accepted into a Minnesota Peace Officer Educational Program. The goal is to develop, train, and retain CSO-Cadets for current and future full-time police officer positions with the Fairmont Police Department. The CSO-Cadet works a flexible schedule of approximately 20-30 hours per week while not attending classes. There is no guarantee of future employment as a police officer. Failing to maintain educational enrollment, failing to develop job related skills in an acceptable manner, unacceptable behavior or negative representation of the department or profession, or if the CSO-Cadet becomes ineligible to become a licensed peace officer, the Cadet will be immediately removed from employment. Term of employment while in the CSO-Cadet program will not exceed 36 months unless approved by the Chief of Police and Police Commission for an extension. All candidates must meet the minimum selection standards for peace officer license eligibility MN Rules 6700.0700 Subpart 1A through G. Any final candidate will be required to successfully pass a thorough background investigation prior to any final employment offer.

Applicants must meet one of the following to be considered for the CSO-Cadet position:

  1. Recent graduate of a POST certified Minnesota Peace Officer Educational Program.
  2. Currently enrolled in a POST certified Minnesota Peace Officer Educational Program.
  3. Currently enrolled or has been accepted to attend a POST certified Skills Program.
  4. High School graduate who has been accepted to attend a POST approved Minnesota Peace Officer Educational Program.

Starting Compensation
Starting hourly wage: $26.43/hour
